Harbor Bank · Mobile banking · 2025

01

Briefing

A 90-year-old bank wanted an app its grandchildren would use.

Harbor Bank lost most new accounts between sign-up and first card use. The app asked for nineteen pieces of information before it showed a single balance.

Field intel · 12 branch interviews

02

Objective

Get new customers to a working card in one sitting.

Success meant a funded, usable virtual card before the customer put their phone down, without weakening a single compliance check.

Constraint · every KYC step kept

03

Approach

Identity checks moved behind a usable account.

New customers see, fund and freeze a virtual card inside six minutes. Verification finishes in the background, and the physical card follows by post.

Build · Figma, Protopie, SwiftUI handoff

04

Result

+38% card activation in the first week.

Onboarding support calls halved, and the app passed WCAG AA with VoiceOver, TalkBack and 200% text size.
