The situation
Operators at Nordlys watched forty alarm types across nine screens, and the important ones looked exactly like the routine ones.
The approach
We grouped alarms into six states with one colour each, designed for a wall display read from eight metres away, and tested every state with operators on night shift.
What changed
In simulator tests operators identified the critical alarm 2.4 times faster, with zero missed events across 60 runs.
